Jeffery S. Loutit, MBChB, is an infectious disease (ID) physician who is the chief medical officer at Qpex Biopharma in San Diego. He received his medical degree from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1981 and completed his ID fellowship at Stanford University, California in 1992.
After 8 years on the faculty at Stanford, he moved to industry. Over the last 23 years, he has focused on antibacterial drug development at Intrabiotics, Intermune, Mpex Pharmaceuticals, Rempex Pharmaceuticals, The Medicine’s Company and, now, Qpex Biopharma. He has been responsible for the global clinical development and approval of several currently available antibiotics.
