Mylea A. Echazarreta is a cell & molecular biology doctoral candidate at The University of Texas at San Antonio, a RISE Ph.D. Participant and a member of the microTalk team. She is interested in infectious disease research and studies the bacterial pathogenesis of Vibrio cholerae under the mentorship of Dr. Karl Klose.

She actively engages her fellow graduate and undergraduate students to better understand the impact microbes have on our health, especially during infection. Echazarreta is involved in organizations, such as the South Texas Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases (STCEID), ASM and the UTSA SACNAS Chapter, where she advocates for microbiology research.
