Peter Gilligan, Ph.D., D(ABMM), F(AAM) is the former Director of the Clinical °®¶¹´«Ã½-Immunology Laboratories at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. During his 42 years as a clinical microbiologist, he has been involved in the clinical laboratories’ response to a wide range of “novel” infectious agents including Clostridium difficile, HIV, Burkholderia cepacia complex, Mycobacterium abscessus complex, anthrax, SARS and influenza A H1N1 2009. Dr. Gilligan served as an editor of the Journal of Clinical °®¶¹´«Ã½ and the Clinical °®¶¹´«Ã½ Reviews. He was also an initial member of the Board of Editors for mBio. Dr. Gilligan is an emeritus Diplomate of the American Board of Medical °®¶¹´«Ã½ and Fellow of the American Academy of °®¶¹´«Ã½. He currently is involved in the community response to COVID-19 in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community in North Carolina.
