Peter N. Lipke, Ph.D.

Peter Lipke, Ph.D., is a professor of biology at Brooklyn College. He is a microbiologist interested in the surface of fungi. Specifically, his group studies how protein amyloids affect adhesion of the fungi, how the host responds to fungal colonization and whether amyloid-targeted drugs can be developed as antifungals. His interests also include science education, opportunities in science for historically excluded groups, mentoring and student development.
He has authored over and several patent applications.
Lipke has served as Director of MARC and SCORE Programs, department chairperson and faculty fellow for research development. He was elected to the American Academy of °®¶¹´«Ã½ and is a fellow of the AAAS. In 2018, he was awarded the prestigious ASM William A. Hinton Award for Advancement of a Diverse Community of Microbiologists, which recognizes outstanding contributions and service toward fostering the research training of minorities and increasing diversity in microbiology.
