Dr. Spencer Benson has been an ASM member and volunteer for more than 4 decades. He served as Division-W Chair, chair of the Undergraduate Education and the International Education Committees. He received the ASM-Carski award in 2011. He is the founder and director of and has spent more than 30 years as a faculty member, researcher and educator at the University of Maryland and the University of Macau. He is the former director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Maryland and the first Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at the University of Macau. He currently is a part-time consultant at the Graduate School at the University of Maryland. Dr. Benson has given teaching and learning workshops and talks locally and in more than 15 countries. He has authored more than 50 articles on teaching and learning and is an editor for the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, Learning Communities Journal and College Teaching.
