ABRCMS Conference Receives the 2019 Excellence in STEM Education Award

Washington, D.C. – March 28, 2019 – The , managed by the American Society for °®¶¹´«Ã½ (ASM), received the from the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), an honorific society of medical and biomedical engineers.

ABRCMS is one of the largest communities of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. More than 2,500 students attend ABCMS to present their research, enhance professional development skills, explore graduate schools, and network

“This distinction is timely as ABRCMS makes inroads into bio-engineering sciences,” said Irene Hulede, Senior Manager of Education at ASM. “This trend toward bio-engineering and the physical/computational sciences has been a strong focus for ABRCMS for the past 10 years. The award provides evidence that our efforts have been recognized.”

Irene Hulede and ABRCMS Committee chair, Avery August, received the award at the AIMBE’s Annual Meeting Award Banquet on Sunday, March 24, 2019. ABRCMS is the 6th recipient of the award and the first recipient of the award to a non-profit organization.

“It was a distinct honor for the vision of ABRCMS to be recognized by the AIMBE," said Avery August. "ABRCMS joins a distinguished list of past awardees of the STEM award, which is evidence of the reach that ABRCMS has in diversifying the future scientific workforce."

The next ABRCMS conference will be held in Anaheim, California from November 13 through 16, 2019.
