ASM Announces Founding Editor in Chief for New Journal, ASM Case Reports
ASM Case Reports will be a dedicated platform for the prompt publication of high-quality case reports in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases, an extensive and rapidly growing body of research. The journal will begin publishing case reports in 2025 and accepting submissions starting mid-2024.
Carey-Ann Burnham is the Chief Clinical Officer at Pattern Bioscience and professor of pathology and immunology, pediatrics, molecular microbiology and medicine at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Burnham has held several editorial roles, including serving as an editor for the Journal of Clinical °®¶¹´«Ã½, Co-Editor in Chief of the Clinical °®¶¹´«Ã½ Procedures Handbook and leadership roles in professional societies, including at ASM, the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute and the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists.
"At a high level, I see my role as creating a strategic vision for ASM Case Reports. My long-term objectives include growing ASM Case Reports into a widely known and respected name, attracting manuscripts from authors around the world and becoming the go-to destination for the most impactful case reports in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases,” said Burnham. “I look forward to working with ASM Journals to define the journal sections and structure, select senior editors and create an editorial board.”
ASM Case Reports will explore new diseases, elaborate disease progressions, the detailed actions and effects of pharmaceuticals and novel diagnostics at the emerging frontiers of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.

Burnham will begin her tenure as founding editor in chief on July 1, 2024. ASM Case Reports will begin accepting manuscripts after July 15, 2024.
