Following an organization-wide ethics review in 2019, ASM undertook the following actions in 2021:
- The Ethics Program offered a Publishing Ethics session at World Microbe Forum (WMF) and wrote an article for the membership magazine, Microcosm, on Bioethics: Fraudulent Diagnostics.
- ASM incorporated its Diversity Statement into the ASM Code of Ethics and Conduct, “ASM members aspire to exemplify inclusive diversity with equity, access and accountability (IDEAA) in the microbial sciences.”
- ASM served as facilitators for 2 virtual sessions during the Leadership Council of the Societies Consortium on Sexual Harassment in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical fields (STEMM) annual meeting.
