Aisling S. Dugan, Ph.D.'s, fascination with the natural world ignited during her childhood explorations in rural upstate New York. Holding a biology degree from Smith College, she delved into cancer biology research before earning her Ph.D. at Brown University and completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Tufts University.

Specializing in host-pathogen interactions, Dugan explores the intricate mechanisms behind viral and bacterial infections, understanding strategies to establish and elude natural defenses. Dugan is also a passionate educator, focusing on microbiology, immunology and infectious disease courses. After spending 10 years at Assumption University, Dugan now holds the position of Senior Lecturer at Brown University. She is also a lifelong learner who has become increasingly interested in the intersectionality between the sciences and the humanities. By fostering a sense of belonging, building community and acting with transparency, her goal is to instill an appreciation and joy for the microbial world and also develop the student's confidence to pursue STEM fields. Dugan's commitment to varied and adaptable assignments allows students to showcase their unique learning styles, acquire new skills and exhibit mastery of biological content.
