David R. Peaper, M.D., Ph.D., D(ABMM)

David R. Peaper, M.D., Ph.D., D(ABMM) is director of the medical microbiology laboratory and the COVID-19 testing laboratory at Yale New Haven Hospital. He also serves as medical director of the COVID-19 testing enterprise at Yale New Haven Health and director of the virology reference laboratory at VA Connecticut Healthcare System. In addition, he is an associate professor of laboratory medicine at Yale University.
Peaper completed his undergraduate training at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Following college, he enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale School of Medicine, earning a Ph.D. in immunobiology in 2007 for his graduate work studying MHC class I antigen processing and presentation biochemistry. He completed his medical training, earning an M.D. from Yale School of Medicine in 2008.
Following medical school, Peaper entered the clinical pathology residency program at Yale New Haven Hospital in 2008 and functioned as chief resident in clinical pathology for the 2009 to 2010 academic year. He then completed the Winchester Fellowship in Medical °®¶¹´«Ã½ at Yale New Haven Hospital. After completing his fellowship, he transitioned to his current clinical roles at Yale New Haven Hospital and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. Peaper is interested in using a data-driven approach to improve laboratory operations to provide improved patient care. He seeks to leverage appropriate information technology resources to improve testing practices within the laboratory and by providers at our institutions. Additionally, he is interested in evaluating and applying new testing methodologies across all aspects of clinical microbiology.
