Laurence Clement directs the Academic Career Development Program at the Office of Career and Professional Development at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Her mission is to use evidence-based approaches to diversify scientific research. She is particularly interested in helping trainees navigate systemic inequities in scientific training and hiring, and in helping organizations identify and change processes that contribute to these systemic inequities. Dr. Clement was the Principal Investigator on a Burroughs Wellcome award, which supported the development of the ). She is currently the co-chair of the Graduate Career Consortium Education Research committee and co-Director of the ASM Biology Education Research: Getting Started webinar series. Dr. Clement is also a co-PI on a collaborative National Science Foundation ATE grant with City College of San Francisco to train UCSF graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to be inclusive research mentors, with colleagues Naledi Saul, Karen Leung and James Lewis. She consults with academic and non-profit organizations on projects related to inclusive hiring, mentoring, training, management and teaching practices and on faculty career preparation. She holds a Ph.D. in Endocrinology and Cell Interactions from Université Paris-Sud, France and was a postdoctoral fellow at UCSF.
