Michelle Dziejman, Ph.D., earned her B.S. in biology: microbiology from the University of Rochester and her Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics from the University of Pennsylvania. A series of fortunate events allowed her to conduct her thesis work at Harvard Medical School, where she first began working with Vibrio cholerae. Interested in the (at that time emerging) field of host-pathogen interactions, a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital facilitated an immersive experience in molecular immunology.

Developing genomics-based projects during a return to Harvard Medical School laid the groundwork for a faculty position and full-circle return to Rochester, N.Y. Dziejman is currently an associate professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where her laboratory studies the pathogenic mechanisms of type III secretion system-positive V. cholerae strains. She also serves as director for the microbiology M.S. program and course director for "Mechanisms of Microbial Pathogenesis."
