ASM to Launch ABRCMS Leadership Development Academy
Washington, D.C.—°®¶¹´«Ã½ (ASM) has been awarded a significant $700,000 grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative for core support of the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS). ASM will utilize this grant to bolster programming offered at ABRCMS, including expanding the innovations programs initiative of the conference.The ABRCMS Innovation Programs are dedicated to supporting innovative initiatives that advance the careers of minoritized scientists. These programs include fellowships, experiential learning opportunities and professional development grants for graduate students, postdoctoral scientists and junior faculty. They serve to supplement conference funding provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), extending support to the ABRCMS community beyond the annual conference. ASM has organized and managed the NIH-funded ABRCMS conference since its inception in 2001.
This year, ASM is expanding the ABRCMS Innovation Programs by launching the ABRCMS Leadership Development Academy, a comprehensive 2.5-day training program designed to provide intensive feedback and transformative learning experiences. Available both online and in-person, the Academy aims to invest in the next generation of diverse Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) leaders by equipping participants with leadership skills necessary to excel in their careers and drive change at the highest levels.
The Academy offers professional development training that fosters self-awareness and personal growth, empowering participants to navigate their professional journeys with confidence. Moreover, it provides invaluable insights into career advancement strategies, ensuring participants are well-equipped to seize future opportunities.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are central themes woven throughout the Leadership Development Academy's curriculum. Participants will engage with topics aimed at accelerating racial equity and cultivating inclusive environments within their respective fields. By fostering peer networks and providing mentorship opportunities, the Academy seeks to help participants achieve their aspirations and thrive within their organizations.
