While many enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) variants have been developed, the premise of each variant is the same—to assess the reaction between an antigen and its cognate antibody, either quantitatively or qualitatively. Using an antibody preparation of known specificity and quantity, the antigen concentration can be determined; using an antigen preparation of known specificity and quantity, the antibody concentration can be determined.
